T40 TV Tuner

#1 Post by atct86 » Wed Feb 01, 2006 6:14 pm

I am trying to put off buying a TV for my dorm room. I was thinking about a 15" Sharp Aquos. Then I realized that my laptop is 14.1", and I could save longer to get a larger LCD.

I was wondering if there are any good Laptop TV tuners that I could buy instead? Possibly supporting RCA inputs and/or DVR capability.

Any feedback, reviews, or links to products would be helpful.

Sorry for sounding snarky, atct86, but Aunt Google will deliver a ton of results when queried for "PCMCIA TV-card", "USB TV-card" or similar incantations. All you have to do is to pick out the few hits that lead to sites that actually sell such a card.

cheers,

continuing doppelfish -

And search reviews on these cards to see if they are any good. Search 'user reviews' to see what real customers thought of them.

HDTV work very very weel on the T4x ThinkPads I had a thread below.

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

I am using the TinyUSB2 (aka TwinHan Beetle) HDTV via USB 2.0 works much better than in my PC with the Twinhan PCI DVB-T tuner. The ThinkPads DO support DxVA very well.

Checkout this thread about the device.

To get 5.1 / 7.1 from my ThinPad I am going to get the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook.

Would you need an external HDTV tuner to get HDTV with this card?

I am just thinking about using it for HDTV while connected to my external monitor...however I don't know if I would be able to receive the HDTV signals from the antenna on the roof or not. Can anyone answer this.

Also would it look good on a thinkpad with 1024x768 res? Isn't HDTV a higher res?

I think I might go with this mainly for the software integration. I just dont know if I can attach an antenna to it

I also found this on ebay howver, it seems sketchy.

I have an ULtraTV USB 300 which works very well. I can get signal off the airwaves, or connect it to my PVR and dump programs to my hard drive. I have had fun playing around with it, but don't really use it much because I have 3 TV's in the house and they're all bigger than my X31 screen anyway. Let me know if you have an interest, I might sell it. I just haven't gotten around to getting it onto Ebay.
