Anyone Know Blu-Ray and HD-DVD Info?

I am a long time reader of many Home Audio and Video magazine. However I am trying to answer some questions about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD's.

1) When will players and discs be available?

2) Will current and Past DVD's gain anything in HD, or was Film at its max when DVD emerged.

3) Is it worth waiting to buy Major DVDs, ie the Godfather Series, or waiting till they come out on the new formats.

Any other info would be helpful.
