IBM T43 2668-BH2 PM2.0, 1024MB, 80G, 14.1" SXGA+
It want to be a T60, but I can't let it be.

One way to check the revision number first is to use IBM's Drive Fitness Test. I believe the revision will be called "microcode."
Is the drive to be updated an IBM branded drive or a generic Hitatchi? It's been discussed here that IBM's firmware update utility will only work on IBM branded drives. This appears true as my generic Hitachi drive is revision A53A and the latest IBM revision is A5HA but the update utility says no newer update is available even though my exact model number is listed in the update utility.
Whew, I feel so much safer knowing there are spelling police trolling the threads here. We've got to keep them ignorant poor spellin' locals and foreigners in check!

Control Panel -> System -> hardware -> device manager -> Disk Drives -> properties -> details, and look for a number that looks like a firmware version. Mine is A5HA, and the device instance id looks like:IDE\DISKHTS548040M9AT00_________________________MG2OA5HA\5&2CAE0B77&0&0.0.0
This number appears on other fields as well.
T42 2378FVU Pentium M 735(1.7Ghz), 768MB, 14.1" SXGA+, 40GB, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
I have got the same situation as yours. I think it's only suitable for some older hard disks.hiyel wrote:Thanks for the clue jhonyl. Mine says A51A, I guess that's the latest version according to the readme (I got my t43 on dec 19th '05).
