My Network Places
My Network Places
Hi All,
I have a X31 and a T42 connected to a home wireless network.
When I want to view and share resources with other computers on this network, I am able to do so on the X31, but not with the T42. I always get the following error message:
"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I am not sure what is going on as the settings are exactly the same in both lapotps. Please advice.
Thank you.
best regards,
Ranjit

although the T42 is giving you problems... this is more of a windows problem and you might get more of a response in there.
i'm assuming both are joined to the same workgroup and if you're using windows firewall you have the option checked to allow file and printer sharing. try typing \\192.168.1.xx\share_name where XX is your IP (assuming you're using the .1 subnet) and share_name is the name of the shared resource you're trying to access. if that works, then you might have a netbios or dns issue.

One candidate to review is Firewall settings. If the firewalls are not set to permit the other machine, then they can't see each other. So the X could be set to see, but not to be seen. The other candidate is Workgroup. Make sure the workgroup is the same on both machines. ... JD Hurst
Note: Firewall permissions are not the same as File and Print sharing that Byron suggested, but I do agree with checking File and Print as well.

I'm not a Zone Alarm user, but I think you have a setting to change trusted zone security to low. You should be able so see all computers with such a setting. If so, then you need to configure your firewall:
1) open Zone Alarm
2) click on "Firewall"
3)click on "Zones" tab
4) at the bottom click "Add>>"
5) choose IP range
6) now you just fiill in the blanks. The router you have setup a range of ip address to address to each comptuers...so just put that range and choose trusted.
If this doesn't work, try renaming the workgroup and see if that helps.

didn't see that... i was just going off of what he had in the original post. my bad.
i'm assuming you've tried turning off all firewalls (actually closing ZA, not just checking "allow all").... if not, i would start there and then add each piece back in one by one.
