T4x - Ubuntu/Kubuntu 5.10

#1 Post by techflavor » Thu Feb 02, 2006 12:24 pm

I have a T43 2668-75U (2ghz, 1gb ram, ati x300 1400x1050, cd-rw/dvd-rw, atheros mini-pci, 9cell, bluetooth, fingerprint). Tomorrow I will be receiving my Ultrabay HDD adapter and new hard drive.

I plan on installing either Ubuntu or Kubuntu on the second harddrive. To everyone who has a T4x machine with Ubuntu/Kubuntu installed, what made you lean more toward gnome or kde? I know it's all about personal preference; therefore, wanted to get real life experiences.

So far I think I'm leaning more toward gnome but still haven't completely made up my mind...

They both work pretty well and since it is a personal preference thing you will have to try both to see which one you like best. There are some apps available on Gnome that are not available on KDE and vice-versa.
Only you will know which you prefer.

I have Ubuntu 5.10 on the Second HDD in the Ultrabay and it has been very good so far; I picked GNOME and everything works great.

I also have Gentoo on another machine (When was Gentoo mentioned?), but I chose Ubuntu for the T43. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks for the replies. I just got my HDD adapter in the mail today so now I'm just waiting on my new hard drive.

I am going to go ahead and use gnome since that is what I'm most comfortable with.

Chris -- looks like mine and your setup will be exactly the same for the most part. Our models are extremely close, hdd adapter with xp pro and ubuntu 5.10, etc. If you also have a 9cell and Mini Dock then we should be twins :P
