Remote desktop never loads...
Remote desktop never loads...
I was trying to use windows remote desktop from co-workers dell to my t43p and I get to the remote screen where it prompts me to login but it hangs saying thinkvantage connections is connecting please wait or something along those lines. I waited for 10 minutes and the box never goes away. I can move the box around so the system doesn't crash but it never fully connects.
I was wondering if any has experienced this before and whether or not there is a fix.
Thanks.

I have used remote desktop from my PC to our office server using just the windows remote desktop connection. It's under programs, accessories, communications, remote desktop. Try typing in the IP or domain server name from there and see if you can connect, that may rule out a network/router/firewall connectivity issue.
There are many different possible problems depending on your exact network setups, both at home and at work.
Some of the parameters to verify are the following.
* Verify that you are either you are the Administrator or have been included in the list of users that XP allows to connect to remote desktop.
* Verify that your XP firewall has Remote Assistance/Desktop included in its Exception list.
* Verfiy that the Routeur/Firewall at work allows for the incoming/outgoing usage of port 3389. Your Networks admin might not allow this.
* The Firewall /Router at work AND/OR at home would have to be setup to use either NAT or PAT in order for your work machine to be reached unless it can be configured to use UPnP.
* Do you have the possibility to connect to a VPN behind either of the firewalls/routers. If so it can simplify many things.
* Can you connect correctly to the Remote Desktop Machine from within the same network location.
* Remove all third party connection software and temporarily shut down any firewall while trying to estalish a connection.
Can you supply us with more detailed information about your netwrk setup
.
Cheers Roy

Re: Remote desktop never loads...
Sorry let me try again. I can remote to the machine and I can login, but then I see the Thinkvantage connections dialog box in center of the screen and that is all. It says to please wait but no matter how long I've waited it never loads.bill bolton wrote:Can you please provide more explict details of the process you are following in using Windows Remote Desktop Connection?koolzero wrote:I get to the remote screen where it prompts me to login
