CALL = 2-3 months for delivery of a T60p
In spite of what the Lenovo web site says, 2-4 weeks, the sales guy on the phone today says 2-3 months for the only T60p you can order today, 2623DDU.
Well for one thing it doesn't appear that *any* of the pc manufacturers other than Apple have these Intel Core Duo chips in any kind of quantity...

CDW will have 150 ACER 8204's in this week. I've been getting updates form CDW for the last couple of weeks.wolfman wrote:Well for one thing it doesn't appear that *any* of the pc manufacturers other than Apple have these Intel Core Duo chips in any kind of quantity...
This is just Lenovo's bs about not being able to get chips. The truth of the matter is that they just can't get them produced. Any wonder ACER is now the #3 laptop vendor - recently took over this spot from Toshiba. And there goal is to be #1.

They still have a long way to go; as an example, IBM should never have let Acer produce the i Series for them for that long. I am going to give Lenovo some time here with making sure everything works correctly and have it go through due testing rather than just throwing stuff out there with little regard for functionality or usage (much like what Dell does now). If it takes them just a tad longer to test and pass the T60 through Q&A, so be it. Either it takes slightly longer, or there will be no end to the complaints from people who said the quality would be lacking. I don't know if they actually are doing Q&A, but I would rather have that than get sporadic patches of weird behavior and models. Of course, one could buy right now and wait to get one-uped in 6 months to a year by the new Merom platform Intel will release.

Unprofessional? I really think it is up to IBM/Lenovo to decide when they are ready to release *their* product and find a good way to ship it. Some delays I have seen come from UPS and Customs and some from IBM/Lenovo themselves. I should think that they are well aware of any delays and what significance they could cause.

In all fairness, if IBM/Lenovo has a ThinkPad (duo) out within the next two months, EXCELLENT.
They were never known for releasing "new" technology as soon as it hit the showroom floor.
Test, test, test.....release=IBM (at lenovo?, at least I hope they still do it!)
goble together, release, test, patch, patch= Other vendors...
My T30's were toasty!!! But compared with other vendors P4's it was the difference between the shade in the summer in Michigan and the Arizona desert at high noon.
I think the only model suffering from "sudden" release syndrome is the T43's with the turbo prop.

Follow the stock. You will see. (Hang Seng Index). I am looking at it from a consumers standpoint. I am not bias (as yourself). I think it is not good practice to send an ac/dc adapter on 1/12, the simple memory upgrade on 2/12, and the Notebook on 3/20? All the while, while taking your order, telling you your complete order will ship on 1/12 (knowing full well it will not). This is not how to reach to number one in the USA. And I am not disputing the quality.
I have been working at one of the top stock brokerage firms in the world (offices worldwide-I oversee their security systems) and I was in the office when they ordered a different brand than their usual thinkpads.

No accusations of bias here, those tend to be quite useless; also, I know other companies who just order Dell and don't care. It is the money they either lose or don't lose on what they order; sure, a good IT gal/guy might say "Hey, don't get that many Dells; they aren't great" but that only factors into one part of the equation. The Thinkpads were, and still are, designed to be the "Ultimate Business Laptop" and they achieve that goal quite well. Everybody I have asked has said they would love to have a Thinkpad for a laptop, even though they are more expensive. If, however, you need to get something quick, easy, and cheap that turns on and stays on until a system glitch or until it gets turned off (one way or another
); might as well go with a Dell or a "Modern" HP (What happened to the Omnibooks?). You can go further, a fleet of cars for business purposes just has to do the job and get from point A to point B; any durability or suspension smoothness and/or other goodies are merely "bonuses" from the purely monetary standpoint. Yet how many actually decisions get made, better..How many *wise* decisions get made, purely from the here-and-now monetary benefits?
Then when it comes to personal-use, monetary benefits get mixed in with less tangible, more time-dependent things like "Durability" and "Quality."

I kind of agree with DataAve and own6volvos on this one. I don't think they're disputing the quality of the ThinkPads. They're critiquing the way Lenovo is publicizing the release of their new notebooks and then being unreliable and wishy washy about when they ship.
If Lenovo is taking it's time in order to test and ensure the quality of their notebooks, great. But they could just say that. And be more precise about when the notebooks will be ready.
To me it does come across like jerking people around to announce a new product that actually is not ready yet and still being built. It would be one thing if they said, here's a sneak preview of the upcoming T60, which won't be ready for a couple months.
But they don't do that. They announce the product as if it's done already. Post it on their web site as if it's for sale and available "within 2 weeks." Then change that to "within 2-4 weeks." But on the phone different customer service people tell you anything from 6 weeks to more than two months. And all the while they want you to place an order for a product that will be ready who knows when and which doesn't apparently actually exist yet.
That leaves me feeling jerked around and not respected. And to me it seems like it's clearly part of a marketing strategy (to tease and entice people and get orders before a product is ready) and has nothing to do with testing computers.
I know a lot of companies release products this way. But that doesn't make it any less frustrating and annoying.
