e-books

#1 Post by fjs08 » Sat Jul 17, 2004 1:12 pm

Hi,
I have a t40 with XP Pro. I've downloaded Microsoft Reader in an attempt to download books to read while traveling.
The d/l went well and the Reader is activated.
I attempted to d/l the dictionary, which looks like it does, but it doesn't appear in the reader. I've d/l'ed a few books off of a U. of Virginia free site. Looks like the books are downloaded, but they don't appear anywhere. I can see the dialog box that they are going to a TEMP folder and have a .lit file designation, but I can't find them anywhere.
Any thought as to what is going on here.
Actually, the same thing happened with .pdf book files. I can d/l and read .pdf docs, but not the books???
Thanks,
Frank

Do a search. Run My computer>C:>Search for files and folders>All files and folders>and enter *.lit in the "All or part of the file name" box.

This is strange. Nothing showed up, however, I went to my Mac, d/l'ed the file to my mac, then sent it via e-mail (this was a small sample book) which I opened up in my e-mail, saved, and then could bring up in my Microsoft Reader. Go Figure???

Humm,

Did the same thing with the Encarta Dictionary which was a 2 or 3 meg file. E-mailed it from Mac to yahoo and downloaded it from there. And it works perfectly. It's driving me nuts why it won't d/l directly on the Thinkpad with XP Pro?

Out of curiosity I downloaded MS reader and got a couple of sample books - everything works. I have a t40p with XP-Pro
Thank you,
Gerhard
