Your part number for the 80gb 5400 hitachi (in stock) is actually for the 60gb drive. Is there an 80gb 5400rpm version in stock? How do you get these part numbers?

Is there any difference between the fujitsu and hitachi?

I see the Fuj drives more in the industrial and rugged laptops, so take that as you will.

For whatever it's worth. A couple of years ago when I was involved in IT management (read equipment purchasing etc.). I was researching replacement drives and found some industry surveys on reliability. If I remember correctly; consistently, company that had the highest failure rate was Samsung, followed closely by Fujitsu. Conner and Seagate was around midpack. Of course these are based on averages and as they say "your mileage may vary".

Are we 100% sure that these are hard drives and not tray assemblies as discussed in the other forum?

Many thanks to GACrabill for this hot tip. I went ahead and order 2 for myself. Shipping fee is the same ($13.50) for both.

I bet these are hard drives + tray assemblies, although it's possible that the drives are refurbished/used.

Such a good deal. Anyone outside the U.S. make this work?

It doesn't seem to allow Canadian orders and their is no such area on the IBM and Lenovo Canada site.

Appearently IBM has caught their mistake. The $34.50 drive is now priced on the web page at $400.

I was just able to order part# 13N6805, after reading the above post for $50.64 (including tax and shipping)

Man, I hope that it isn't just the hard drive tray. I googled the part number and everything was pointing to a $400 hard drive. **fingers crossed**

I ordered two 80gb harddrives; I hope they come, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm fairly confident that these are actually harddrives.... HOWEVER, how many of these harddrives do you think they actually have in stock? This is my guess as to what happened: It's either a typo, or for some reason they got a ton of these hard drives in and are unloading them at a really low price (seems a bit hard to believe, but sure, it's possible). Either way, I think these are used/refurbished drives. And once they run out of stock on a used item, the item is no longer available.

I think everyone knows that ibm/lenovo is a bit sluggish in changing the status of stock on their website (ie. in stock --> out of stock), especially over the weekend. How many people do you think have ordered a harddrive in the past day or so after hearing about this deal? I bet hundreds, if not thousands, and someone in the other thread said a guy ordered 1000 of them. So I think the first group who ordered the drives will get them, unless just cancels everyone's order. But, everyone after this group isn't going to get one. I'm sure my order is in the thousands, so I will be surprised if they have enough stock to make it to me, even if they honor the deal.

the IBM HDD tray (hard drive caddy) 's FRU is 46L5050

I have whole box of that....

so, 13N6805 is real HD...

Although I ordered a lot... but I doubt that I can get them.

According to what I read, if you have an American Express card issued in Canada or any other country, you should be able to get it shipped there.

Part numbers fit with the drives (not only trays). They are at $42.00 now (Hitachi 80GB 5400 rpm 13N6805).

Update ... some very interesting price changes.

I ordered 3 of the 60GB 7200rpm Hitachi drives tonight.
I don't know why their price dropped from $164 to $46 each but with shipping still at $13.50 for three, it was a no-brainer.
Incidently, the 80GB 5400rpm Hitachi 13N6805 really isn't "in stock".

Saturday, 02/04, 01:00 EST :

60GB 9.5mm 5400rpm Hitachi 13N6803 $ 34.50 Within 2-4 weeks

The safe assumption is that these are refurbished. I would guess that the Hitachi drives are 5K80 and 7K60 models and those aren't being manufactured anymore (replaced last year with 5K100 and 7K100 series).

In the threads at FW and SD, a few folks have received theirs and stated that there are stickers on each that say 'serviceable used part'. Some folks have essentially posted "who cares .... re-certified parts that IBM uses for warranty repairs are fine".

One person reported that his manufacture date was 01/2006 so they were obviously 'new' but IBM Parts puts the sticker on all of them (probably to clarify a 90 day warranty period).

When I tried to buy the 13N6807 Tuesday afternoon by calling IBM Parts, the quoted price was around $262. I asked about the huge difference in price between phone orders and web orders and was basically told that they ship from the same places and that the webstore was a different organization but needed to honor whatever pricing they post on the website. The part number is the same whether an organization calls IBM Parts to buy some or goes to the website to order parts.

Patience is a virtue.
No one has received a cancellation email.
We may have to wait weeks for the drives.

I got a cancellation email yesterday for the 60 gig 7200 rpm drive that was 46 dollars, so looks like IBM is not honoring the deal. At least they are not honoring mine.
