Will this DVD writer (DL) work on a T42?

Will this DVD Double Layer writer work as an upgrade on a T42? Listing says yes, seller says different things that are inconsistent when emailed, and I have heard just about any 9.5mm optical drive will work with the T42, if you use the caddy from the old drive.
