Suddenly no sound from T21

#1 Post by goofyGAguy » Sat Feb 04, 2006 9:32 pm

Hello everyone. Hopefully someone here can help a newbie out. :D
Anyway, as the title says, all of a sudden my T21 is completely silent. It was working fine when I shut it down this morning, now nothing. If anyone can point me in a good direction on how to troubleshoot this problem it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Did you check to make sure that the grey mute button up by the Thinkpad button wasn't pushed by accident? If so, try pressing the volume up button.

Yes, I tried everything I can think of. Even went into Device Manager looking for exclamation points.

Does the headphone jack work? Try to reinstall the drivers.
If this does't work, it might be the system board. I had quite a few T2x with this problem.

No, the headphone jack doesn't seem to be working either. I guess it's time to head over to eBay. :(

Bump, with clues.

OK, hopefully I have some more info to help out the sleuths. The two-note chime upon plugging/unplugging the AC adapter from the back of the unit can still be heard, and the volume control buttons above the keyboard do increase and decrease the sound level. I assume at least my speakers are still connected and working. Does this likely mean the problem is with the motherboard or a bad sound card? Thanks.

Since you are still getting the BIOS type sounds, have you tried reinstalling your audio drivers, as mentioned earlier?

I'm not quite sure of the procedure for this.
