running with lid closed?
running with lid closed?
Is it Ok to run my T40 closed with a an LCD monitor on top of it? This is a perfect setup for me and doesn't seem to stress the lid from what I can see. (The LCD is synmaster 19).
Any advice appreciated. Am I ruining my computer?

Hello and Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
Hmmm, how much does that 19" LCD weigh? I think your T40 can stand it due to the alloy backing of the LCD lid, but I would get a stand with a space in the bottom where you could slip in your T40 and hook it up. Interesting idea though...

IBM/Lenovo sells a stand that's meant for this. It has a little drawer underneath for your TP. I have a 20" LCD that I definitely wouldn't want to put directly on top of my TP.

Get or make some sort of stand. The T4x breath thru the keyboard area & the weight of a 19" LCD is enough to put a lot of pressure on both the laptop screen & internal components inside the laptop.
I have the IBM monitor stand and it is rather large & bulky. It's made for like a 20" CRT and can probably hold at least 150-pounds. It's way too big even for my 24" Dell 2405FPW. Look around on Google, I'm sure you can find a nice, small & compact stand on the cheap.
