Firewire problems on the X31

#1 Post by ragefury32 » Sun Feb 05, 2006 5:51 pm

Hi...Does anyone have problems dealing with the Firewire port on their X31s? I recently bought an adaptec 1394/USB2 powered 3.5" HDD enclosure and a 6 to 4 pin IEEE1394 adapter. Mounted an 80GByte HDD in there, set it up and verified it to work on a machine with a 6 pin FW400 port and running Windows 2000 professional. Everything looks good.

Okay. Inserted the 4 to 6 adapter, jacked the rig into the IEEE1394 on the side of the X31 running Windows XP...and...NOTHING shows up. No device insertion notices, nothing. What gives?

It could be a problem with powering the device through the FirwWire port. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I believe that is correct.
You need the 6 pin connector for power. 4 pin gives you data only.

Yes, 6 pin gets you power, 4 only data. The 4pin is mostly useful when connecting to a videocamera or something with its own powersource.
