Waiting on T42P!

#1 Post by Cougar Red » Sun Feb 05, 2006 11:30 pm

First post.

After reading up, I ordered a T42P today from Thinkpadworld off e-bay. Should arrive mid-week. I'll post my experience with the seller and the machine once the transaction is complete.

I was looking for a notebook to play poker on when away from home (I have a nice desktop at home). I need the ability to play 4 tables at once with no overlap, which the 1600x1200 UXGA display enables.

I chose the Thinkpad over the Dell 9300 17" WUXGA. While the bigger screen is nice, I don't need the extra space that the 1920x1200 Dell provides, and I was looking for something light with long battery life. The T42P scores high marks in both categories. Sony actually made a few VAIOs with a 16" UXGA screen, but I decided against the Sony brand more than anything. Actually, my second choice was an R50P from Thinkpadworld for $1399.

The model I bought is in "new open box condition" with original factory 3 year warranty. Thinkpadworld has some recertified machines, but they come with a Mack warranty that was not enticing to me.

The stats:

Pentium M 745 1.8GHz Processor
1GB RAM
60GB 7200rpm HDD
15 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD
128MB ATI FireGL T2
CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner(slim)
Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI)
Bluetooth/Modem(CDC)
1Gb Ethernet(LOM)
UltraNav
Secure Chip
9 cell Li-Ion battery
Windows XP Professional

The price was $1699 plus shipping, which I thought was decent after looking around. Certainly a lot cheaper today than it was 2 years ago.

For my needs, it should be plenty of machine for years to come. About the only thing I may add is the ultrabay slim battery, unless its possible to add a fingerprint reader after purchase.

More later . . .

SWEET!

Hopefully IBM/Lenovo will call me for a replacement this week! I want to see if they can get me a T42P as well (14.1SXGA) not the 15", too big for my taste..but sweet none the less!!!

Congrats...and yes, it is amazing what you can get them for now! Still not cheap, but a LOT cheaper then two (as stated) even 1 year ago!

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums ;)

*whistles*

That is a very cool setup you have there; for a good price too, not often a deal like that comes by.

Let us all know how it goes ;) :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
