Closing the laptop

#1 Post by yawnmoth » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:24 am

I have an external monitor plugged into my ThinkPad and am currently experiencing some troubles with it.

First, I'd like to make it so I see the same thing on both the external monitor and the ThinkPads monitor. eg. if I'm watching a video on one monitor, I'm watching it on both, if I open a browser window, it opens on both, etc.

I have, at times, had it set up like this, but everytime I "close" my ThinkPad, the configuration I had goes away and the external monitor becomes the only monitor. Now, I can't seem to figure out how to make it behave as described above.

This brings me to my second problem. Whenever I "close" my ThinkPad, the external monitor becomes the default and only monitor. When I "reopen" it, the ThinkPads monitor is turned off. At this point, I can reactivate the monitor by making it a secondary one and extending the Windows desktop onto it, but I don't want to do this. I don't want to have to keep losing my monitor configuration every time I "close" my ThinkPad.

Any ideas as to what I can do would be appreciated. Thanks!

Although I don't use any additional displays, I remember there being an option somewhere in the video display settings that would allow you to configure your primary and secondary displays as well as their respective function. Right-click desktop, select properties, select settings, select advanced. Should be in there somewhere.
