Hard drive crash; No Recovery CD

#1 Post by waller3 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:44 pm

I have had a recent Hard Drive Failure requiring new HD, but I had no Rescue and Recovery Disk to restore all original IBM settings (for instance, where has Function-F7 gone for setting up LCD projector? No Access IBM?). How should I best go about restoring all the original settings? Windows XP Pro is installed, etc., but not “Record Now” for instance. I still have my original HD files, i.e., IBMShare, IBMTools, IBMWork.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Best way to restore original settings is to visit IBM's website, navigate to to the "downloads and drivers" page of your system and download the software installer. Using that handy little tool will allow you to download the whole lot of drivers needed for your system.

Aw heck... software installer for your system is here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OFT-UPDATE

If you want to take a look at the drivers and IBM/Thinkvantage software, turn to this page:

As for third party software, as long as the contents of the IBMTools directory is intact, all you have to do is navigate via explorer to the APPS subdirectory and the applications should be there for you to install (setup.exe in the respective directories).

Was the failed HDD under IBM's warranty? Sometimes they are willing to send you the recovery CD set along with the new HDD.
