Hi everyone
First of all, this forum is a great resource for all tpad owners and thanks to all the users who have posted here with information that have helped thousands of users.
This is my first post as I recently discovered this forum and I am new to Thinkpad world.
I have a Thinkpad T30 with 1.8 GH CPU (machine type 2366) that has a 400 MHz bus.
I bought a cheap CPU from one of my friends who upgraded his Compaq Presario notebook. This CPU is 2.4 GHz SL66T and when I install it in my Thinkpad, and start the machine, the machine turns on, but nothing apperas on the screen (complete blank), and there is are no beeps either.
I have a 915 Chipset in my T30. Could that be a problem? If it is, can the chipset be replaced as well?
When I put the old CPU back, T30 works fine.
Is there something I am missing to make this CPU work in my T30?
Thanks

from what i have seen online, i believe the T30 series uses a P4-M cpu.
Not too sure but there could be a max cpu speed that is supported by your bios/chipset? Or is your cooling adequate? i mean your jumping from 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz. That is a substantial jump
another issue that im more likely leaning to is to the different cpu speeds, the cpus might not be having hte same voltage ratings. The 1.8Ghz cpu that came stock in your laptop might have a lower voltage demand than the 2.4Ghz cpu you want to put in. That is why the 2.4Ghz cpu doesnt run in the motherboard, as its probably not getting enuf voltage.
