600 cpu speed and FSB problem

#1 Post by bikereff » Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:57 pm

Hello to all,

A friend has a 600 that has a cpu speed problem. CPU-Z reports the speed rising and dropping regularly. This 600 has an upgraded 300Mhz cpu, but this still does the same thing with the original 266Mhz cpu. The FSB speed changes also with the cpu. It goes from a high of 290 to a low of 66 and yet CPU-Z reports that the processor is a PII 300.

The only thing I could think of is the clock for the system is going bad. Is this on the system board or is it on another board? Anyone seen this problem before?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello All,

I should clarify, CPU-Z is reporting that the processor core speed, FSB, and Bus speed keeps changing. It keeps changing as the progam is scanning. I found that there was Kahlon memory in the unit and was recently installed. I removed the memory and re-installed the original IBM memory but without luck. Also, even though the fan is running, the unit is getting warm and the exhaust from the fan is warm, very warm, as well.

Anybody run into this problem before? Is this caused by the system clock and is this on the system board? Please, any help?
