Why does IBM make updating TP SO DIFFICULT!

#1 Post by T41mbi » Sun Jul 18, 2004 2:37 am

OK IBM Update Connector hardly ever works, and when it does, it never works 100%

IBM Website is cluttered and unorganized. The "Multiple download files section" dosent even work me and working through it all manually by searching is just too confusing! FARK!

I got a 2373-9FU when i go to the multiple download thingy page, i select the files i wanna download, then i click "download now" and nothing happens, it just takes me to a page where it summarizes what I have selected and gives me an option to print it off for future reference, but thats it, not downloads start, not download button..................

Getting sick of it, I want my baby to be up to date and performing at its peak

Try using my method to do updates:

1) Click http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... idate=true

2) Add to your internet browser's favorites.

3) Check the page once a week or whenever to find updates as soon as they appear.

4) Then after a couple clicks and download, install.

5) No more navigating through IBM's website, which I also find to be one of the worst among big computer manufacturers and worser than motherboard makers.

I agree with taphil. I use this site:
http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/
and enter the model number I want. But that is just personal preference on my part.

I use the "View Document Type" by "Downloads and Drivers" function, find the updates I want and download them.

What makes that better for me than Update Connector is that it is faster to browse through the list presented and select just the updates I want.

I find this site http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PAD-MATRIX to be the easiest to navigate simply pick your model and the next page takes you to the drivers with dates and anything within the past 30 days the date is in RED

BECAUSE IBM update connector does not scan the system properly for updates, i have found many updates available for software on the page that update connector does not detect

The Update Connector is unreliable and practically useless. After reading this thread I decided to run it just for kicks. It took about a minute to initialize, either because it is bloatware or because it relies on slow Java. Then it reached 66% and stayed there for 5 minutes.

:?

If IBM wants people to use this feature, they should make it at least as fast as Windows Update (30 seconds at most to see what updates are available).

I checked to see if my Update Connector was out of date. I have 5.3 on my ThinkPad and there's a 5.32 out, but I'm NOT downloading 60MB of unreliable software!

Edit: I just uninstalled the Update Connector. 67.5MB less bloatware on my ThinkPad!

i bet i know why your update matrix isnt working. the reason the downloading isnt working is because you probably have a pop up blocker installed. a pop up appears for you to click i agree. if you are using the google toolbar, just hold down ctrl and then click the download link so it allows for the pop up to show up. otherwise, just disable any pop blocker you might have and it should work :D
