x40 bluetooth

#1 Post by n3ldan » Tue Feb 07, 2006 8:44 am

Hi all
I'm looking to buy an x40/x41 (probably off ebay) and I need bluetooth. This is extremely limiting, as very few of the x40's on ebay have bluetooth. Is there any way to add the stock bluetooth chip and use the stock antenna (would that even still be in the laptop?)

Bluetooth Upgrade for X40

#2 Post by carlnunes » Sun Mar 05, 2006 5:08 pm

I too was concerned about the lack of pricing options on Ebay. I know I wanted Bluetooth, but wanted a fair configuration for the price.
I have done a bit of "googling" and have come to the conclusion, that a Bluetooth upgrade on my X40 will be an easy process. Check these guys out on Ebay.
WIRELESS4LAPTOP

I haven't done this upgrade yet but feel confident that it will work with my X40. One last thing, opening and upgrading a new laptop is not for the faint of heart. Contact the guys hosting the above Ebay auction store and they will help you with install instructions.

I hope this helps someone.

yeah, the bluetooth/56k modem combo card is what I was looking for. Almost $50, but worth it to me. I will probaly buy

Installing it shoul dbe no prob, I'm experienced with the innards of laptops

I also want a new keyboard for this thing, the spacebar SUCKS. I'm a righty adn I usuallly hit it on the far right side with my thumb, but too far on either side and it doesnt register as being pressed. Really, really annoying.

Thanks for the help

I installed the Bluetooth / 56k combo card. My X40 didn't have a Bluetooth antenna, so I installed a small antenna in the bay next to the combo card. Not sure if this affects range, but it's working fine so far.

Now I just need to get a new X40 faceplate so I can see the Bluetooth light above the keyboard.

The Ebay Store I listed above (wireless4laptop) will give you the appropriate antenna with your order of a Bluetooth module. Here's a quote from my question to wireless4laptop:

"Dear Carl, thank you for your email. For X40, I recommend Type B antenna, very easy to install.
Nice day.
Kindly

Does the new face plate for the X40 come with an led for Bluetooth? Any ideas on how that works?

I hope this helps someone.

if you take off your current faceplate, you will notice an additional light for the bluetooth. you can poke a hole in your current faceplate or cough up some cash for a faceplate with a nice bluetooth symbol. no additional led necessary.
