R40 2966 GZU Mini PCI wireless adaptor?

I want to get a Mini PCI wireless adaptor for my R40 2966 GZU, but I see that in the Lenovo website it only lists 11a, 11b that are compatable. There is no 11g adaptors. Does anyone know why this is? Should I get the card instead? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
