Issues after recovery

#1 Post by jongordo8 » Tue Feb 07, 2006 11:26 pm

I just restored/recovered my T40 using the recovery disks I got from a fellow member on here. After putting on SP2 and running software installer I have everything working. Loaded my programs and docs on it, and started using it. Noticed 2 issues now:

After every restart
1) windows firewall is turned off
2) In both IE and firefox the home page/start page resets to www.msn.com.

Anyone else experienced this or know how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance.

You have to set the Windows Firewall Service to come on everytime the system starts up; then you can re-set the home page in Firefox and IE. If that doesn't work, then you might be able to change the Homepage via the registry.

Although...I am already thinking that you did the aforementioned and it is still a problem. :?

For firewall try this:

> Start/Run --> cmd.exe
>
> and then, in the command prompt that opened up, type:
>
> netsh.exe winsock reset
>
> and hit Enter. Follow prompts and reboot

For homepage issue, if you're wireless, you'll need to configure Access Connections (homepage setting). I don't know if does anything for firefox, but does set homepage for IE. In your case, I'd leave it blank in Access Connections and then set the homepage again in Firefox. See if that helps.

Excellent...access connections has settings for both firewall and home page that was messing with the windows settings.

Thanks guys.
