NEW DISPLAY/MONITOR for my Thinkpad 600X (IMPORTANT)

#1 Post by badi00ab » Wed Feb 08, 2006 8:42 am

Hello everybody,

I have a BIG problem regarding my thinkpad 600X. I am not an expert, but think that i need a new display for my laptop. I have just been ordering a used one. My first problem (or question to some of you that can help me) is - can i use a display from a thinkpad 600 in my thinkpad 600x (is it the samte type)? My second concern is - maybe it's not a new display i need - but just a "back-light" for the display. Therefor, how will i find out if i need to change the whole display or only the "back-light" for the screen? And finally, does any body know - or can anybody send me a link that shows me how to change a display for a thinkpad 600X? I am also interested to hear about a price for a new/used display (just in case - so i can compare with the price i have been paying for the used one). ANYBODY - PLZ write me back as soon as possible since i use my laptop a lot... Thank you in advantage for your help.
Regards,

Barro

Hey dude.

as long as the 600 screen is a 13.3" screen it should work.

There is no link that I know of that shwos how to replace the LCD but I can email you the PDF file 600X manuel.

You can't relacement the backlight.

Wizard.

Instructions for replacing the backlight can be found here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=3705 . The procedure, however, can be rather complex and tricky.

The ThinkPad hardware maintenance manual can be found in the forum's FAQ and it will give all the information you need regarding dissasembly of your ThinkPad.

Make sure the screen you buy is for a 600E or 600X and the original 600 had a different inverter board.

Thanx for the reply. I've been talking to many different people; however, u r the first one that tells me, that it has to be from a 600E or 600X. I've been ordering a display from an old 600 (nothing else). Will it not fit at all - since it has a different inverter board?
PS: I got the 600X manual (thanx)...

Well, if the screen is already underway, we can see if it works. If not, then we can try swapping the inverter because the LCD itself is the same.

A 600E screen will definitely work in a 600x, BUT, there are minor issues because the 600x screen IS different. I know this from a very recent experiment with mine.
The 600E screen will work, but it's rather dull when used on battery & the way I got round this was to turn on the brightness in ThinkVantage (Lcd) configuration.
On the other hand, a 600x screen will sort of work in a 600E but it causes prolems, freezing & locking up etc, so don't anybody waste time on this issue.
If you need any part numbers etc, I will dig them out for you & post back here.
Hope this was of some help.
