Anyone else having ATI driver problems on an A30?

#1 Post by schen » Wed Feb 08, 2006 2:37 pm

In general I've never had video driver problems with TPs, but this one has me stumped. My wife's A30 runs fine with the built-in XPP. Unfortunately, everytime I run the IBM/Lenovo software installer, it insist that I need the ATI Radeon Mobility video driver which I dutifully download and attempt to install hoping that something will be different. So far after tries on 3 different occasions, all the installs have aborted and failed to complete. Anyone have a similar experience and/or ideas on this?

I have a similar problem with the Lenovo installer. It won't install the ThinkPad Configuration utility. The download completes, but the automatic install does not work. I can try to manually install it, but after choosing the language, it shows a progress bar, gets about 75% done, then just silently fails out to the desktop.

Since I run linux anyway, it isn't really a big deal for me. Does your driver install fail in a similar way?

In that case; you need to do it manually. Go to the driver matrix page for that Thinkpad and select the ATI Driver to download. Next, do a manual install. That should work :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Driver failure

I answer both replies at one here. Mine driver install doesn't fail in the same way. It gets the end and gives me an error initializing the ini. I've tried the stand alone driver from the matrix as well with the exact same result.
