T41/42 extended to 2nd monitor problem

#1 Post by katman » Sun Jul 18, 2004 5:36 pm

hi,

when i try to extend t41/42 to 2nd monitor (19" crt) it doesn't fill up the entire monitor. and also, the screen space is smaller than the resoultion, so with a mouse you can push the desktop around to see the rest of it. it's weird.

how can i fix this? i just want 2 screens, one primary and one secondary just like regular desktop vidcards that fit the screen.

What is your T41/42 LCD resolution and what is your CRT resolution?

its possible to run dual monitors (LCD + ext monitor) on a T42? that would be AWESOME since I'm worried about going from dual monitors on my desktop (which I'm selling) to a single laptop screen...

Of course it's possible. You can set dual display, extended desktop etc.

My T40's (with ATI Radeon 7500) max resolution is 2048x1536 (through analog port, if your monitor can handle it). Probably it's higher with new ATI cards (9000 64MB, 9600 64MB, 128MB).You can get 1600x1200 via the Port Replicator/Mini Dock's DVI port (see our FAQ). What monitor do you have?

I'm currently running 2x Benq FP951 19" LCDs, although I'm either selling one or both before college. I'm only bringing the T42 to college. Cant decide whether or not to keep 1, I'm getting a 14" T42 for small size and ability to fit on airplanes, etc

so i can run different programs on each monitor? thats what i'm currently doing with a dual head 9700 non pro on my desktop

thanks

Have you tried ATI's Hydravision? Or just simply check the box in Display properties>Settings>"Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".

It's very easy, just press Fn+F7, then You enter the Presentation Manager, just add a new scheme.

yea... the thing is, i can only get the desktop to be extended. i would rather have 2 separate desktops. previously on other machines, i could see two monitors on the display properties -> settings tab. one primary and one secondary.

however i can only enable thorugh fn+f7 or adavanced settings -> ati displays. the result is a normal looking LCD, but the CRT resolution is too big for the screen, such that you can manuver the mouse to see other parts of the extended desktop.. it's really annoying

edit: the resolution is 2800x1050

There might be a way to get around that. I had the same problem, but solved it using the capture button. Start by manually set the correct resolution on the secondary screen, and then capture the setting (In presentation manager).

If Money wasn't a problem I think I would try to buy the Dock II and add a PCI video card and run dual LCD monitors with out having to open my thinkpad. I can wish can't I.....
