Just got my Port Replicator II -- ONLY 1 USB PORT???

#1 Post by tbessie » Thu Feb 09, 2006 4:06 pm

So I just got the Port Replicator II I bought on eBay. Everything's fine, but I just noticed that it only has a *single* USB port in the back.

What's THAT about? My A31 has two in the back... so I get to use the replicator, and reduce the available ports?

I'm assuming that *IBM* assumed I'd be either using a hub, or would have a newer generation Thinkpad that had USB ports on the sides (which the A31 doesn't). How weird.

Anyone guess that this design decision?

... wishing I had gotten a Dock II instead, but they were more than twice the price.

Yes, it is stupid.
I had to use the old printer connector to print, the keyboard and mouse connectors (use USB to PS2 adapters) and the usb for the iPod. So far it works okay.

The port replicator only gives you ports that the motherboard itself already has support for. So that would be three USB ports, and with modern ThinkPads, that's two on the side, and one on the port replicator...
