X4 Ultrabase USB ports not working

#1 Post by Philip Rogers » Fri Feb 10, 2006 4:22 am

I have an X41 attached to the Ultrabase X4. None of the USB ports function. Everything else works fine. The USB ports on the laptop are fine too. Can't see anything obviously wrong in the Control Panel System Hardware settings other than an Unknown device in the USB section and no drivers loaded against the Docking Station section.

Any thoughts?

Philip

Had this problem earlier. Everything solved when uninstalled rescue and recovery software. Don´t know why but in my machine RNR causes mysterious problems with software. It also made my boot to crawl.

If RNR helped for the port above then try that but in my experience it normally indicates a hardware problem if the ones on the ThinkPad directly work but the ultrabase ones don't - are they seen under USB in device manager? do you get any power from them (test by checking for lights on optical mice or usb memory keys)?

Hi,

I have the same problem on my X40, but in my case, the USB port on my X40 doesn't work too.

I need to plug a PCMCIA USB.

And my sound card doesn't work too.

It appears it's a IRQ problem caused by the mini PCI WIRELESS on the X serie.

IBM knew this problem, and some forum said it's a hardware problem and need to send pc to IBM to repair.

Have since tried another Ultrabase X4 which works fine. So it must be a hardware fault.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Philip
