When will T42 be discontinued?
Hi all. Long time lurker. Registered so I could ask:
When will the T42 be discontinued?
I have one thru work and I really like it. But I'd like to eventually buy a personal one. With the T43 widely available, and the T60 recently introduced, I wonder how long the T42 will stick around.
Should I plan to buy a T42 soon? 1 week? 1 month? 1 year?
Thanks for any advice. Apologies if this has already been discussed. I don't remember seeing it and a search for "T42 discontinued" didn't turn up much.

Welcome
I haven't seen any recent plans to dis-continue the T42; I am guessing, however, that it will sty around for a long while to come now.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I talked to an IBM rep 6-7 weeks ago and while he didn't come out and say the T42 was going to be around a while, he did say they just introduced new models (this was mid December and the models were introduced in late November). He said something about people specifically (and companies) asking for T42 models to be consistent with recent purchases. He said they were releasing new T42 models to accomodate those requests.
So none of that says when they will discontinue, but it would appear you're safe for a little while yet...

thanks for the advice
Thanks for the advice. It doesn't seem like I have anything to worry about in the near future. I wonder if I can hold out until Windows Vista becomes available. I'm hoping that Vista will provide me with more security out of the box without me needing to resort to third party firewalls, etc.
In the meantime my work-supplied T42 is just fine.
