"Windows was not shut down properly..."
OK, the specs first:
T23, 2647 8MU, 256 mb RAM, just pirchased from IBM as a refurb
Worked fine for the first few weeks, suddenly this afternoon, it won't boot.
I get a message stating that Windows was not shut down properly and gives me 5 choices:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with DOS prompt
Last satble configuration
Retry
and some other in the safe mode category.
No matter which I choose, I wind up in an endless loop of reboots. In the middle somewhere is a BSOD, with some lengthy error mesage, too long to copy in the 8 seconds or so it is present. In then goes into rebooting.
The little bit I did get to write was something like
STOP 0X0006B and then some more numbers.
I did add a new wireless connection last night (I al visiting my brother-in-law) so that might be the problem. But fo/r now, I can't get anywhere. What might be the next steps??
Thnaks,

I just heard back from the tech to whom I turned this problem over to (I am leaving the country (US) for five months tomorrow)! He asked if I had any imaging software installed and I did recall that I had a downloaded Acronis (Easy Migrate) installed. He stated that when you see the "Process 1_Initialization Failed" message it is most frequently some imaging software that causes the problem.
He stated that the registry was severely corrupted

Have you tried booting with "Last known good configuration"? If there are registry changes that cause boot up problems this will restore you back to a previous registry from the last success full boot to windows.

Never believe anything a tech tells you.
Are you sure it's 0x6B? The only reference to that in the Microsoft KB is related to installing XP SP1 over Windows 2000, and I doubt if that would apply.
Can you get into the Rescue and Recovery envronment by pushing the Blue Access IBM button at startup? If so, run PC Doctor diagnostics and hav it check the disk for errors.
Or, can you get a Windows CD? If so, boot from it and get into the recovery console. Run chkdsk c: /f from the command prompt.

Last known configuration just kept me in the loop.
Unfortunately, I am about to leave for the PRC tomorrow, my backups are not available and I needed to swallow hard and pay to get this fixed.
I am now up and running... rescue and restore was avaialble but would only allow me to reformat and reinstall to factory settings. I needed to save some of the documents. Never again, when I get to China I get an external drive and some imaging software and I WILL USE IT, I promise!
