New 9-Cell Battery
Hi,
I just recieved my new 9-cell battery today and I was testing it out. I got it new from e-Bay so its not an IBM battery. However, considering it was half the price of an IBM, I think I got a good deal. I just had one question about the battery. How long is it suppose to last? The battery meter has been all over the place. It fluctuated from 3 hours to almost 5 hours and now, has settled at 4:30. BTW, the full capacity on my battery is 71.41Wh... not really sure what that means.

Here is a link to the post related to 9-cell batteries on EBay, these are OEM and come with 0 Cycles.

These batteries will give you about 7.7Wh when fully charged.
I never had the battery meter fluctuate that much on a set power scheme on a TP ( I have seen it on Dell's etc). So I can't comment, being that it is also non-oem could be part of the problem.
I am sure someone else will chime in on this.....

I don't think that my new battery is charging/discharging properly. When I am using it, the battery meter would "jump" from around 30% to 5% within seconds. When I am charging the battery and the meter gets to around 85%, it just "jumps" to 100% immediately. Also, I notice that the full charge is 65Wh when its designed to have 71Wh.
This is a new battery with only 1 cycle so is there any way I can fix this problem? Maybe "reset" the battery

Unfortunately you get what you pay for, and it is usually the case that generic batteries will not perform as well as OEM IBM parts. I got 4 hours with my 6 cell when my Thinkpad was new, and I even have an SXGA+ screen. With a 9 cell I would expect somewhere around 5.5-6 hours new., assuming high battery conservation settings.TimWang wrote:Hmm... after more use, I seem to be only getting 4 hours from a 9-cell battery. Is that normal?

Yea, I think I learned my lesson. After registering only 3 cycles on this new generic 9-cell, its only showing 60.33Wh. That's nearly a 15% drop in charge capacity from design specs. I emailed the customer support department at the online eBay battery shop and I'm thinking I might have gotten a defective unit.Ryan T. wrote:Unfortunately you get what you pay for...
i purchased same 9cell battery from ebay and it came with original lenovo/ibm packing Dec. '05
