Odd problem with X40

#1 Post by poonjahb » Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:24 am

Just started noticing an odd problem with my X40. I recently reloaded it with XP SP2 and have left it on overnight a few times since then for defrags and updates and such. In the morning when I go to look at it, the screen is off and it will not respond to any keystrokes to wake it up. The machine is not locked up as the caps lock light will turn on and off and if I press the power button and wait it will shut itself down. I have disabled all of the power management in Windows and am still having a problem. Anyone run across anything similar?

TIA

Have you tried Fn+F7 twice to switch the screen from laptop to monitor and back? Works for me in similar situations (even if no monitor attached).

Yeah, it didn't seem to work. I'll give it another shot tonight after I get home tho.

Interesting - i've had this happen once or twice in the past year or so. Never did figure out what was causing it. I figured it was just a spanner in the box, a gremlin if you will...

I had this same problem. However it had nothing to do with defrags etc. My X41 screen randomly went black, orange, blue or even green and nothing seemed to work. However, after a fresh install and when installing only those "option" software really needed I've not had this problem. When I did I noticed that pressing Fn+F4 (sleep) and waking it up again helped = faster than reboot.

My X41 also has this problem. It happened three or four times whem I was chatting with my friends on MSN. I tried Fn+F7/F3 and Fn+Home/End but with no response. Finally I found out a way: just close and open the lid, and everything is OK as if you turn off and on a desktop PC monitor.
By the way, my option in the PowerManager settings for "Lid closed" is "no action"
By now, this is the only bug I have with my X41.

hah - I spoke to soon. This just happened with my X40 connected to an external LCD. Came back after 40-45 min and 'dead'. Tried closing lid and Fn + F3. No luck. Had to power down by holding the power button for 4 seconds.
