Z60t slowwww on wifi mode

#1 Post by roadwarrior » Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:32 am

Hey all,

I have been noticing my Z60t being REALLY slow straight out of the box. When I disable the wireless card in Windows, everything runs much much faster. I use a program called "process explorer" to find out what was happening and it seems that when I activate the wireless card the "deferred procedure calls" jump up to hog up all of the CPU. Anyone ever notice this? How can I fix this?

Ok, looking at some forums it seems that the Atheros wifi card causes the computer to run really slow on weak WIFI signals, which is what is going on now. Once again, disabling the WIFI card solves the CPU problem. It looks like this occurs on laptops other than thinkpads too. The problem seems to be the Atheros WIFI chipset. Any solutions? Alternative drivers? Does the Z60t wifi use a removable card? If this stays this bad...I am thinking about swapping wifi cards.

The WiFi card is a standard Mini-PCI card. No problem swapping these.

great.. looking at the service manual it looks like this is possible. I may just remove my WLAN as well and put it up for sale. I have an Intel mini PCI WIFI card from my R40 I may just swap out.
