Is it possible to set up W2K for Standard PC instead of ACPI
Is it possible to set up W2K for Standard PC instead of ACPI
I have an R31 with 2656-25u that I beleive is having IRQ issues with the minipci slot (see my post here for details - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=19128).
Since the ACPI configuration does not alow the user to set IRQ in W2K I thought I would re-install as a Standard PC, however when I do this I get a BSOD during the installation set-up (something like "Page fault in non-page area).
My machine has 384mb RAM and I upgraded the processor to a PIII
1.13ghz from the Celeron 1.06ghz, but these troubles existed before any upgrades.
I have checked drivers, both IBM and manufacturer and tried 2 different wifi cards (Intel and another). I have the latest BIOS v3.11.
So, can the Standard PC power mode be installed andhow? Or, any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I know that this is not quite the same thing but I was wondering is could this be a potential solution to your problem?

I've been thinking about the 1802 fix, I might give it a try. The wifi cards I have are recognized by the system, the trouble is that when I am using wifi and I do anything graphic intense (page with lots of pictures, video, play a video off of the HD, etc.) the system locks up cold.smugiri wrote:I know that this is not quite the same thing but I was wondering is could this be a potential solution to your problem?
Turn the card off (disable radio) and there are no problems.
Using a PCMCIA wifi card and there are no problems. Oddly enough my PCMCIA bus uses teh same IRQ as the minipci slot, the mini WIFI and the Intel graphics set.
I have the Serial ports and the parallel port disabled. I do use the IR port, but during my 'testing' have had it turned off as well. Same troubles.GomJabbar wrote:If you don't use Infrared, try disabling the Infrared Device in Device Manager, then reboot. This will free up some resources for you (IRQ, etc.).
I do have an internal antenna I installed under the keyboard. It is not shorting anything (taped the leads down to the plastic shield) but I wonder if it's an RF problem? I did disconnect the antenna from the card, and with the card turned on I locked up soon as I went to a video.
Should there be a RF shield between the card and the MB in the minipci slot?
