T20 Won't Boot with AC Cable - Only Battery Boot

#1 Post by Sal » Mon Feb 13, 2006 9:48 pm

Can anyone help?
I just upgraded my T20 with a 1000/700 CPU, changed the Bios Battery, and put in a new fan.
However, the computer will only boot through the diagnostics page with the AC cord connected. Remove the cord, and it will boot - longer than before - i.e.., complete battery boot only.
I'm also wondering about the fan. The new one (for t20, 21 and 22) has 3 contacts, the old one 4. Is this normal or was I sent the wrong fan?
Thanks for your help.....Sal

dont know why u made another thread but here goes..

the T20 fan has 4 contacts, the T21+ fans have 3 contacts. yet they are supposed to be compatible.
i think your motherboard is not giving enuf voltage to the CPU at AC level. WHen plugged in the 1.0Ghz demands 1.7V whlie on battery it requires 1.35V. The battery voltage is the same as the 700mhz cpu u had before.

that is why it works only on the battery. Also it might be cuz the heatsink is not making proper contact with the motherboard and not able to cool down the cpu

Thanks. How do I increase or check the voltage out of the motherboard? One last question: it boots quickly through the the diagnostics page, but when it gets to windows xp it mut take 5 minutes! Any idea as to why?
Thanks again,
Sal

unfortunately this is a laptop motherboard. so im pretty sure increasing voltage is out of the question unless there is a hardware mod out there.

it might be taking long to boot xp since your cpu is getting hot.
