Video Issue ???

#1 Post by timbuk2 » Mon Jul 19, 2004 2:31 pm

I just purchased a used A30 2652-33U with a known video issue, here are the symptons:

-vertical pinstriping on the LCD display,
-any text on boot up (excluding BIOS messages) are garbled,
-spaces appear with exclamation marks,
-text is not coded properly, "B appear as "C", "D" as "E", "F" as "G" etc...
-any dos or windows installation text is garbled in this manner,
-the Radeon Mobility Driver v 7.79.7.3.3-... does not load,
-XP only loads in safe mode with driver v6.13.10.6278 from ATI,
-i am not recieving related error messages in the XP event viewer,

I have:
-performed all Microsoft updates,
-applied IBM's XP Installation Supplement,
-updated Bios to v1.18,
-confirmed Embedded Controller v1.06,

any ideas as to what has happeded to the video?
Cheers...

I have found that the Omega drivers listed on thi site work wonders with the flaky screen resolution issues, thank you :)

But there is still an issue with the garbled screen text, Does anyone have anything add ???
Cheers...

I KNOW This is an issue with the Entire A30x series. I do not know what is wrong with them. Soon I'll be on my fourth mainboard currently on my third which had an issue upon return from the service centre with the firewire port. Since repair took 7 weeks I said hey order the parts when they are available I'll bring it in. I have been waiting for apporx. one month now and still no parts. In the mean time the pinstriping mentioned has appeared.

To be fair the first mainboard managed to hold out for 1 year 2 months the second mainboard also lasted 1 years 2 months the third mainboard currently in use has lasted only one month. IBM will soon be replacing it with a fourth.
