any way to fix it?

I think I recall QCTray being in the startup sequence. What I have now with Access Connections 4.11a is ACTray and ACWLIcon in the startup sequence. I still have a QCTray.exe file in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities, but it is not running at startup that I can see.
Did you completely uninistall the prior version of Access Connections? I did (because that used to be the practice with earlier versions according to IBM). That may be the reason Access Connections is working for me.

I have always hope that AC can have support for firefox as well. I was so happy to know that this newest version does extend its support to FF but then the need to restart FF every time I switch profile do not make sense to me. I could do without this troublesome peusdo support and stick with my proxy changer extension.
It was a nitemare to me that this proxy thing does not work well in FF that I revert back to the older version just 10 minutes of usage.
Hope they come put with REAL support in the next release.

I didn't uninstall it, just went through the update via Software Installer, and now AC is crashing every time I'm adding a new profile.jdhurst wrote:Did you completely uninistall the prior version of Access Connections? ThinkVantage Access Connections Main GUI Application reports an error in acon.dll (offset 00037ff5) each time I press next after selecting the type (Wired LAN for example) and typing in a name.
Does yours do that too, or should I just reinstall it?
Nice of them to _finally_ get g-mode ad-hoc there, a tad bit couple of years late I think, but at least it is there now ;)

Access Connections for me is working just fine. No extra boot time that I can see; no crashing; no unexplained errors. Per a different post, it handles MAC addressing as well, but not in the same was as 3.x. Also, MAC addressing is no longer tied to an identifier which is not as nice. All in all, I have adapted to 4.11a, but I preferred the interface of 3.x. I suspect, though, that some found 3.x complicated, whereas 4.11a appears to be simpler. .. JD Hurst
i've did an uninstall of the previous 3.81 AC before installing, but the same windows pop up..I've checked my registry and cannot find any QCTray.exe in run nor runonce as well..I dun know how the QCTray thing comes about.jdhurst wrote:I think I recall QCTray being in the startup sequence. they shld really check their programs, i remember the time when i install AC4 and my vpn does not dial..seemed like consumers like us are helping them to debug their programs.

Having the consumer check out the programs that they will se in the end is that you get reliable feedback on the systems that are running in the consumers' hands; not a specially prepared, knowingly or not, test rig in the R&D labs that may or may not be representative of the systems that the software will actually end up running on. Access Connections was released, as 4.01 initially, and not put on the "Recommend" list for the Software Installer. I haven't noticed the QCTray.exe process run, but I am familiar with it as I have seen it come and go a few times; see

I agree with all of JDHurst's assessments. I was thinking along the very same lines. I used to have QCTray.exe as one of my running processes, but now with 4.11, I no longer see it running.
Probably your previous version of Access Connections did not fully uninstall. I don't know if this would work, but you could uninstall your current version of ThinkVantage Access Connections - I would use Windows Add or Remove Programs applet in Control Panel. Reboot, then install your previous version of Access Connections. Now reboot again, then uninstall this version of Access Connections. Reboot again and install the new version of Access Connections.
FWIW, I always uninstall Access Connections using Windows Add or Remove Programs, then reboot before installing a newer version of Access Connections. Always worked for me so far. I do choose to keep existing profiles however, to save time.

I suggest using the Software Installer. If you're running 4.11, uninstall it, install 3.81, uninstall it, install 4.11.
If you're at 3.81 currently, just run the uninstall from the Software Installer, and reinstall 4.11. The problem should go away.
If it doesn't, try deleting the qctray and qcwlicon entries in the run key, then stopping and disabling the qconsvc service.

I saw this QCTRAY popup on login after updating this week. I think that QCTRAY is the component that Access Connections uses to either a) connect after login, or b) show one of the indicators in the System Tray (aka Notification Area).jittery wrote:i keep getting this pop up on boot up and shut down

the firefox part is lousy as well, got to restart firefox b4 the settings are updated.
I believe I made it go away by disabling all "show icon on System Tray" in Access Connections and Wireless card status. Failing that, you can try deselecting it on the last tab of MSCONFIG.EXE, but be forewarned that this may interfere with other functionality.
I have no idea what you mean by "the firefox part."

what he meant byt the firefox is this. when we change profiles, we change our proxy settings as well. This proxy settings has always been supported by AC for IE browser but this newest version finally adds in the support for FF. However, the new proxy settings can only take place with a reboot of the FF browser, which is very troublesome and defects the purpose.davidspalding wrote:I saw this QCTRAY popup on login after updating this week.
