FS: 256mb PC100 High Density Ram (Infineon)

#1 Post by tfflivemb2 » Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:29 pm

I have a spare stick of PC100 256mb (CL2) ram that I bought under the assumption that it was Low Density Ram. It has 8 chips, 4 on each side.

I have yet to get it to work in any of my machines, because they all require Low Density Ram (IBM and Compaq). This stick was tested a year ago in a friend's Dell (either a Latitude or Inspiron) and it worked just fine.

If anyone here has a use for it, let me know. I paid $65 for it, but I know that I am not going to get that much for it now.

Please email me with any offers at 'tfflivemb2' AT yahoo dot com.

Paypal preferred.

256Mb RAM

#3 Post by schen » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:58 pm

I know this isn't of help selling the thing, but I just thought I'd pass this on for grins :) I few years ago, when I worked in IT for a large university, one of my pass-times was to go over to the surplus warehouse periodically and see what they had around. They as any large institution these days always had a bunch of Dells. There were several of us from various departments that'd go with screwdrivers in our pockets and accumulate any parts that might be useful. To make a long story short, I'd end up with a lot of RAM for Dells and they virtually never worked in ThinkPads. :? Toshibas on the other hand was about 50/50.

Good luck with your sale. I'm sure you can get a good price on ebay for RAM that work in Dells (especially PC100 256Mb sticks).
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Yeah, I even tried it in a Toshiba Tecra 8100 without luck.

Any Dell users out there?

Forgive my ignorance, but which Thinkpad models can use high-density 256MB PC100 sticks? It seems that the low-density version is what most people seeks. My guess is, the low-density one is good for both PC66 and PC100 machines, whereas the high-density one can work only on PC100 machines. Am I right?

I have yet to get it to work in any Thinkpad. As stated before, it worked in a friend's Dell.

Do you have some unusual attachment to this memory? :)
