after my hard drive died (in another thread) i pulled it out to try it in my computer.
i discovered that:
a) it was missing at least 3 screws. it was being held in by the pins and the screw in the bottom through the housing. another thin-head screw on the front side of the drive was barely holding the black plastic cover on.
b) it was missing a caddy! i never knew there was a caddy until i saw one for sale here: http://www.pchub.com/uph/catf/showitem.aspx?iid=17821
i'd appreciate it if you all let me know if your hard drive (particularly an X20) sits in a caddy!
my X20 was purchased from a member back in august, so i'd be pretty [censored] off if i found out he owes me 3 screws and a caddy!
does your hard drive sit in a caddy?

There are a lot of systems out there without caddys. Depending on the system caddys just make removing the drive that much easier. But for the most part, they aren't required to have the system work properly.
I have sold many TP600/600Es without the caddys, because they can be so expensive to track down. A lot of my buyers have also been people that wanted to cut the price as much as they could.
Granted, a caddy helps hold the drive in place, which means that the drive is less likely to move around and cause problems. HOWEVER, in cases where I didn't include a caddy, I would generally use the hard drive screw, which does the same thing.
