DirectX 9 on T40p?

#1 Post by jkirch » Mon Jul 19, 2004 5:17 pm

Hi everybody,

has anybody installed DirectX9 on his/her Thinkpad. I am planing to install it on my T40p with the ATI Fire GL 9000.
Are there any glitches I should know about?
I am just installing it, because i have a program that requires it.
Cheers,

Jens

P.S. I know that it is not supported with that chip, but will it break my system?

Do i understand it correctly, that i can install directx 9 and my video card will just not support the new features in version 9. only those in version 8.1 supported by the chip?

Thanks a bunch Skywing.

Cheers,

Jens

Yes, you can install directx 9, but you just won't get all the cool new directx 9 features because your card only supports the directx 8.1 features.

the upcoming MS Longhorn 64-bit Windows is supposed to *require* DirectX 9 as minimum, which means ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 minimum.

just some thoughts for "future-proof" your notebook computer...

I read the same thing but on further researching, it appears that the DX9 requirement is for full Longhorn GUI utilization only. Longhorn will run on lesser machines but with reduced graphics functionality.

Considering that the P-M processors on our thinkpads are 32-bit, aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves :?:
