Keys popped off keyboard

#1 Post by somervilleFella » Thu Feb 16, 2006 2:08 am

Several keys have popped off my T30. They are not broken nor is the surface of the computer broken. How do I get them back on?

Did the keys popped off together with the mechanism that holds them in place or did just the keys pop off and the mechanism stayed inside?

If it's the latter - it should be very simple, you just put the key in its place, press down and it clips into place. I haven't seen it on a T30, but that's how it was on some T4x, X4x and T23 keyboards I've seen.

If the former - it's considerably more complicated, as you will have to first separate the key from the mechanism and put the mechanism in place properly, which must be done very carefully so as not to break it. I did it twice with my T42, and it wasn't a pleasure. The mechanism on the T30 is probably a bit different, but similar. I cannot explain with words how it must be done. The best suggestion in this case would be to pop out one more key, so that the mechanism stays inside, then observe how the mechanism is held inside and reproduce it for the key you need to pop back in.

Hope I didn't confuse you too much.
