~ IBM "Software Installer" & "System Update" & their Backup ~

Can those backup Folders be deleted? they take about 1.5GB in total.
I want to get back the wasted HDD space.

Will they affect the function of auto check & update if deleted?

Thanks.....!

I tell you what, interesting that you post this. I just did a back of those very folders to an external hard drive last night (where I keep all of my install files, backups, etc.) because this weekend I plan to do a clean install on my X40 and install, finally, SP2.

This way, once the Windows has be re-installed, I'll move the folders back on to my C: drive, install Software Installer, and tell it look in those folders for updated software. Saves me from re-downloading.

I tried myself, If I remove those 2 Backup folder,
"Software Installer" can't check update anymore.
So, better leave them there or move it to Ext. HDD or
DVD-RW. Load it back when need to do the update check.....

It not like its a huge task to let the software installer get fresh copies of the whole set of utilities if you need to!

Cheers,

Bill

True, unless 1) you don't want the latest software/drivers (i.e., AC4.01 rather than AC4.11a) or 2) your broadband connection (if you have one) is expensive.
