t41:buzz noise with "high system performance" opti
I have a t41 and I have not noticed this till now.
when ever I select "high system performance" with battery maximiser I hear a little buzz noise similar to that of a neon signs.
however if I switch to the other options like super power saver I don't hear it no more. unless I stick my ear next to the fan exhaust.
Is this normal? I personally do not think so.
IBM tech support guy was like run pc doctor which I think I'll give it a try anyhow. also give me the option of not using "high system performance" mode but that would defeat the purpose.
but after that I might have to do on site but he claims its only for major stuff. Which I find odd anyhow. but that's a different story.
any help is appreciated.

Could you please check out the following thread? I have small sound files there that capture a noise very similar to the one you describe.

I suggest we first figure out if we actually have the exact same problem but from what you've described so far it sounds exactly like mine.

I can confirm a high pitched buzzing noise in the top left corner of my R51
only audible when using Maximum CPU in Power Scheme Settings.
I stumbled over it only yesterday when I had to use the "Disable Shutoff timers" Power Scheme, which is featureing Max CPU.
Fortunately its not concerning me so much, as CPU is normally set to
"adaptive"-mode, running at 600 MHz most of the time.
But it is yet another annoyance to the ears,
not up to the expected quality of a Thinkpad.
Lets hope for Lenovo reducing noise emission in future models.
I will thoroghly test it hands on at the Lenovo reseller before
I buy my next model.

Anyway, at what distance to your ears are you able to notice this? When sitting straight up I don't hear it even when the fan and HD are completely turned off. If i lower my head about halfway toward the keyboard's left side (pretty sure it comes from the Pentium M), I am able to hear it.
