T41p Matshita UJDA745 DVD/CDRW DVD region lock
T41p Matshita UJDA745 DVD/CDRW DVD region lock
I have the above combo drive, and it seems not to be able to view dvds from region other than the US. I have researched this forum, but failed to find an answer to this problem. I would not want to flash my firmware, and I have tried DVD region free software like DVD Region+CSS Free, AnyDVD, DVD X Utilities, VLC Player...None of those worked for me. So if anyone could help me out here, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

By default, you can only change the region setting 4 times before it locks you into the last one that was changed; you can do this under the device manager. I remember reading through the forums awhile back and finding a way to, uhhh, assign regions over again. (;))

The Matshita drives are the ONLY ones that do not work with Anydvd, css region free, etc.
Taken from Club CD:
MMC standard requires, that a drive should not reveal a title key on a region mismatched CSS protected disc. (It should return "Illegal request - region code does not match"). Some drives are even less restrictive and even give you the title key on region mismatch.
But AnyDVD can usually reveal the title key with a brute force attack, as long as the drive allows you to read the scrambled sectors.
M a t s u s h i t a (Panasonic) drives do not! You CANNOT read the scrambled data, if the region code doesn't match.
No other drive behaves this way, only M a t s u s h i t a (Panasonic) drives do, as the standard does not require a drive to not reveal the protected data on region mismatch, but M a t s u s h i t a (Panasonic) drives are more restrictive as they need to be.

I use DVDRegion+CSSFree from Fengtao (I think) on my T42p with M a t s u s h i t a drive and it works perfectly.

You can use DVDRegion+CSSFree and AnyDvd on a Matshita as long as the DVD you're playing matches the region that the drive is set to. But if you try to play a DVD from a different region, AnyDVD won't remove the region protection like it normally does.asiafish wrote:I use DVDRegion+CSSFree from Fengtao (I think) on my T42p with M a t s u s h i t a drive and it works perfectly.

Half of my DVD collection is Region 1 (USA) and the other half Region 3 (South Korea). My drive is set to Region 1 (from the factory) and I watch both Regions 1 and 3 DVDs freely on my T42p and M a t s u s h i t a drive. DVDRegion+CSSFree intercepts the movie like its supposd to do and I've never been prompted to select my region, not once.

I got a copy of DVD Region + CSS free back when it was still called DVD Region Free without all the other stuff, and it worked (and still works) a treat. In fact, when I upgraded my 745 to the multiburner it still works transparently and I can play all region DVDs with no problem!

Please, specify what DVD drive you have because I think we are mixturing CD-RW/DVD combo drive (that I belive they do work with DVD Region + CSS free) and DVD-RW drives UJ8xx that do not work with those software at all...
PS: Region protection is not illegal to break. It is just a marketing tool for controlling distribution. Ironically this feature only harms the legal owner of a DVD and not the one with a piracy copy... amazing!
Hope Lenovo will dump M a t s u s h i t a drives from now on...

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)

Maybe it's just the new versions of the software then, 'coz I had a M a t s u s h i t a UJD745 (1.02 firmware) and DVD Region Free 3.25, and it worked flawlessly in the background. I then upgraded to a M a t s u s h i t a DVD-RAM UJ-822s (1.61 firmware?), and it is working fantastically with that too.

From DVD Region + CSS free site:
http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htmNOTE: DVD-RAM, Matshita XX-8xxx, SW-9xxx series DVD drives, and Torisan DRD-Uxxx series DVD drives are not supported now, and there is no plan to support them. But you can watch and copy CSS encrypted DVD movies when the drive region and disc region is matched on these DVD drives.

I had the UJ-822 in my previous T and DVDRegion+CSS Free worked like a champ, as it does on my combo drive and every other PC optical drive I've tried.

I have been reading up on this, and for some reason thought that were was no way to get around the region lock for DVD-RAM Matshita XX-8xxx, but as it seems I tried DVD-X last night and it worked fine, didnt asked me to register a region or anything, and this was the first time that i run a DVD on this drive, so my region chocies are still set to 5 left. Its also not bad of a player, so i will test it out for a while.
Thank for the info everyone.
