I have reported this problem once and got no solution. Now it is more fasinating than before. My wireless connection gave me false information for two situations in the past: one is I let the system idle for a long peiod of time, say 3 hours. After that, my Access connection will show me an excellent signal and same ip address when everything works well. The internet however can't be accessed and every webbrowser reports'looking ***.***.com' and 'can't find server'. the other one is when I close the lid and reopen.
now, another favor is added. I close my lid at home and reactivate it at school. The connection works just fine. Again, I close the lid at school and reactivate the system at home. The connection works again. but when I close and reopen the lid at home. the connection is lost again. That however doesn't happen at school.
Anyone can give me a clue?

Try setting your TCP/IP settings manually. Find out what they are when you have a successful connection, and enter them in manually. You can do this for your home profile alone if need be. Be aware that your IP address has to be unique. AFAIK the last three digits are what changes between different computers on the network. I believe these last three digits generally start at 100. Try setting yours to a high enough number that no one else will be using it.
I use the scenerio above because of encountering the same problem as you in the past. Maybe I don't even need it now because I have upgraded the wireless driver and Access Connections several times, but I have no reason to change to automatic configuration either.

I tried the procedure...I am now pretty confident it's not my T41p's problem, but the router or internet company. At peak times, my computer doesn't seem to be able to get an address. Thank your for the tip anyway.GomJabbar wrote:Try setting your TCP/IP settings manually. Find out what they are when you have a successful connection, and enter them in manually. I have the same problem occasionally with my DSL connection (I am kind of far from the CO). I lose my wired ethernet on the home desktop PC at the same time as the wireless on my laptop. Awhile later the connection works fine. I usually experience these drop-outs at peak usage times.citimeta wrote:At peak times, my computer doesn't seem to be able to get an address.
