Just thought I would give you guys the heads up...i just got a brand new lenovo 9-cell battery for my t42p for $60 shipped off ebay. The same guy put up another auction here: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ThinkPad-T40-R5 ... dZViewItem

Pretty good deal considering ibm wants like $180 8)

Hmmm. Have you checked in Power Manager at how many cycles are registered on the battery? Sometimes if something is too good to be true,... it is. At least one other poster here has been bit by an auction for a "new, never used" battery that had several dozen cycles on it. ;)

YMMV, naturally.

If it is what the auction says, it is extreemly cheap. Is it OEM IBM, with 0 cycles on it?

Thank you for the "heads up" ... just snagged one ...

Including shipping to Cda, the battery cost me $80.73 CAD (IBM Cda charges $215.00 CAD for this item + 15% fed. & prov. sales taxes, + $10.00 CAD shipping - for a total of $257.25 CAD!!!)

What a GREAT DEAL I got thanks to your post ... just wish the vendor has some more of these at that price

Cheers,

Frank

Yep bought one too, the auction says with IBM stickers still on. Or in other words, still new. Cost me 60 euro's here in Holland the same battery will cost me like 180 euro's from IBM. Thanks!

Good enough for me, I couldn't resist. Besides, when someone says "new, sealed in box," any contention would be clear-cut. Your confirmation cinched it for me. TUVM! :D

That auction's done (I snagged the last one), but the seller has a new auction for more this morning. Same price.

Have a look here:

Thanks again smakdown61 !!!

This fellow seems to have a huuuuge supply of these.

There has been positive feedback from recent buyers of the same battery in other auctions.

Actually SHE doesn't. These are the last two from what I understand. As you see by following your link she has decided to do a true auction on these last two because all the rest sold so fast in fixed price sales from $42.99 to $49.99 plus $11 to $20 shipping. Those thinking this was going to be their ongoing low-priced supplier for batteries will be disappointed. Opportunities like this do come around every once in a great while, but they don't last and you have to jump on them while they exist. The problem comes when many of those that DIDN'T buy (or some that did but don't understand the true market for these things when the party ends) start to forever think this is the true market price of a T/R series 9-cell battery! and anyone selling for more is a crook. That's kinda sad. Some people don't understand the difference between a fair price in the market and an anomaly.

Folks this is unfortunately over (for now) and we all need to return to reality IMO.

David,
I was a wee bit wrong (or misinformed) too  as I thought she told me Sunday that they were at the end of their supply and would have to search through the warehouse if they were to find a few more. Well, it looks like they found 2 more late yesterday, but I'm figuring they either misjudged the demand for these things early on and switched to bidding (where it seems the true market price will be $70-75 + $10 shipping as it is holding fast), or they really ARE at the end of their supply and will put them up 1 or 2 at a time as they find some more. Better for them and those of us who missed out earlier too. The 3-4 early auctions were for batches of 5 at a fixed price. From my dealing I'd say it's the latter as the owner seemed like a super nice lady to me and I hope to deal with them again in the future. I was excited at first because their warehouse is about 12 miles from my home and was hoping to stop by and see what other "bargains" they might have, but alas it's one of those oufits that sells from a warhouse shared by numerous companies and thus no walk-in traffic is allowed.

I still think the day of the $60 delivered 9-cell battery is over for now.

T40x 9-cell on Ebay (current auction ending)

#15 Post by Jas » Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:04 am

FYI, this auction is ending soon, but I just got a nice battery from this guy, referenced elsewhere in this forum

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZtaoyi

I actually got a Sanyo 9-cell rather than the stated Panasonic, which might be better. It had a very small cosmetic defect, but seems to be in new condition. Haven't figured out how to find the production date.
