How many T43 owners have used Arctic Silver/Ceramique

Anyone got annoyed by the heat the CPU is generating and decided to put it on?

Also, what does the original stuff look like anyways. (Color wise?)

i used AS 3 on a t41 machine.

FWIW:

I do not have a T43, but I have put Artic Silver II on my T41!

The laptop (T41), never had any heat issues BUT the fan would kick on at full speed(not a loud fan either) and it seemed like an oven was being evacuated from there.

I think the fan is not cycling at full speed as often anymore. I think it is coming on more often at less speeds and not kicking out as much heat.

and as mentioned before, it is SILVER.....

I haven't done anything like that to my T43 as it runs cool and crisp, but I have used Artic Silver before and....It is silver

Yes, droped it about 2C on idle, 4-6C on load.

How exactly do you apply it? I know what it is, but where and how much do you put it on?

remove the original goo, put a paper thin layer of artic silver on the CPU. you may need to somewhow put the heatsink on, then move it around just a slight bit to make sure it's evenly spread out. too much will act as an insulator, too little will not transfer heat. paperthin layer then use a credit card to spread out the artic silver.

Removing the fan is really easy on T43.

For 15' one, you don't have to follow the steps in the HMM, just remove screw 1, 2 and 3, then remove the keyboard, and then the keyboard bezel, and then the fan.

yeah, don't do it... you will never be able to get the surface of the GPU entirely clean again. More importantly, the part of the cooler that covers the GPU is very special in design (i.e. attached is a layer of a peculiar sticky, black substance and some kind of a "thermal" pad). I think these parts are needed to ensure proper contact. You would have to remove these two parts from the cooler and then apply the thermal compound instead. I did this but saw *ZERO* difference with regard to the temperature. If I remember correctly, it even got worse.

By the way, I believe one reason why the GPU gets hotter than the CPU lies in this particular cooling method. I'm sure they had good reasons to implement it this way but I don't think the graphic chip is well cooled.

Undoubtedly, replacing the IBM thermal compound on the CPU with Arctic Silver really makes a difference though. I am currently tempted (but also very hesitant) to try the "Liquid Pro" from Coollaboratory which (allegedly) outperforms any other thermal compound because it consists of pure liquid metal and technically has about ten times the heat conductivity value of Arctic Silver (compare http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/ ). I believe this is a German product.
