X21 dead or just comatose?

#1 Post by ilinds » Sat Feb 18, 2006 7:30 pm

Hi.

First post on this forum so here goes...

I've got an X21 (2662 64G) which I bought on Ebay just over three years ago. Worked great and I used it constantly until October last year when it seemed to die.

Symptoms:
Battery power only - no reaction to pressing power switch.
Mains power (battery in or out) - pressing power switch causes all status lights to flash and a short "phut" noise from the speaker. Yellow "battery charging" indicator on when powered from mains.

Cures attempted without success:
Battery, CMOS battery, mains supply voltages all checked and all correct as per hardware maintainence manual guidlines.
Disconnected + reconnected CMOS battery.
Removed / re-seated memory.
Removed modem / network mini PCI card.
Removed HDD.
Various combinations of multiple presses / holding in power switch mentioned elsewhere on these boards (for other models).

So, is there anything more I can try to revive my Thinkpad? My understanding from various other posts (relating to other models, it must be said) is that the single flash from the status indicators is not a good sign and I'm probably looking at a new mainboard.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi,

Did you manage to get any further ?

I've tried all, except reseating the Wireless card, and nothing moves, I don't get the phut from the speaker, but everything else is similar to yours.

I've tried holding the power button for greater than 10 seconds, etc. etc., still nothing.

Is my systemboard dead ? I'm assuming so, unless someone can suggest other things to try.

Thanks

Andy
