New FireGL Driver Bug?

#1 Post by CoolDragon » Sun Feb 19, 2006 7:27 pm

If you set the power profile to be "balanced" for AC mode, the ATI POWERPLAY profile will be set to be "Optimal Battery Life". However, after rebooting, I noticed that the POWERPLAY still shows the profile being "Optimal Performance"!

Only if you uncheck and recheck the "Enable POWERPLAY", and "apply" or "OK", the active profile will be changed to "Optimal Battery Life"!

Personally, I prefer the "Optimal Battery Life" profile since it will make the GPU stay cooler, together with the fan control tool, the system will be really quiet.

I don't think last version's FireGL driver has this bug.

More confirmation?

Just tried, switching between different power profiles (like high performance and maximum battery) does not change the POWERPLAY active setting. Wierd.

Ah, this is actually caused by disabling the ATI HotKey Poller service.

So don't disable it. :-)
