Rescue and Recovery = failed installation

#1 Post by alot » Tue Jul 20, 2004 12:12 pm

Hi,

after I re-installed Windows XP on my T30 from the recovery CDs, I decided to try out the Rescue and Recovery program, since it's available, apparently better than the previous thing, and costs me nothing compared to Ghost, Drive Image, etc...

So I downloaded it from

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4Q2QAK

and ran the program setup_ibmrr1033.exe.

The installation failed. There is a log file named "rrinstall.txt" in the TEMP directory. The interesting part is (some text in German):

Code: Select all

-----------------------------------------------------
It seems the installation routine can't find the executable bmgr32.exe. Now I found a bmgr.exe under C:\IBMTOOLS, but nowhere a bmgr32.exe.

Any idea where it comes from? And how I get to install this software?

Cheers

Not really the solution: but I would run F11 and try to reinstall RR again.

I installed RR on a T23, T40, A31P notebook and had not any problem.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS/Embedded controller updates for your T30 and that they support (they should) IBM Rescue/Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra... Older BIOS don't support IBMRRwRR.

Viel glueck!

thanks for the help.

a. I can't use F11 to reinstall RR, as there is no recovery partition, and it's a new installation of RR.

b. yes, all has been updated. The problem I met had less to do with the BIOS, and apparently more to do with some missing file bmgr32.exe which breaks the installation routine.

Cheers

You certainly need the recovery CDs (free in Germany within the first three years of warranty).
