Fan runs constanly!

#1 Post by kungpow » Tue Feb 21, 2006 2:52 pm

I use Ubuntu 5.10 on an IBM T40/P. The fan runs constanly when I run Ubuntu Linux eventhough I only use emacs.

Is there some way to make the fan stop like it does in winXP??

I assume you run rather Kubuntu than Ubuntu (means KDE instead of Gnome)? The constant fan activity is a known problem with ThinkPads running KDE. Give Gnome a try!

Other than that; there is a fan script you can use to control the fan speed in Linux, regardless if you use GNOME or KDE; See

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
